LD Bell 35 Haltom 33
00:39 AM CDT on Saturday, September 06, 2008

HALTOM CITY, TEXAS - An exciting, offensive explosion greeted fans at the Old Birdville Stadium Friday night as the L.D. Bell Blue Raiders defeated the Haltom Buffalo 35-33.

Haltom struck hard and fast on the first play from scrimmage when Aaron Shockey connected with Reuben Haynes for a 53-yard pass to set up a 12-yard touchdown run for Shaquille Mathis. Bell quickly responded with an 11-play 60-yard drive of their own to even the score.

After the opening drive for the Buffalo, it was all Raiders in the first half as they took a 28-14 lead to the locker room thanks to two long-distance touchdown connections of 69 and 43 yards from Lehi Tonga to Cameron Duvall.

Dexter Braziel came out after halftime and led Haltom to pay dirt scoring his second and third touchdowns. A narrow miss of an extra point with a second left in the third quarter kept Bell ahead 28-27 going to the 4th.

Logan Smith then struck with his second TD pass of the night when he connected on a 19-yard jail-break shovel-pass to Kerrance Edwards and lengthened Bell's lead to 35-27, but Braziel answered quickly finding the end-zone again for his 4th touchdown of the game to pull Haltom within two. However, Bell's defense withstood the test and held at the precise moment needed to deny the two-point conversion.

Haltom forced a 3-and-out and had one final shot with two minutes remaining, but LD Bell's Defense stood strong against the tough Haltom O-Line to hang on for a Blue Raiders win.

Logan Smith and Lehi Tonga combined for 276 yards and 4 touchdown passes. Cameron Duvall caught three passes for 127 yard and 2 touchdowns for LD Bell. For Haltom, Braziel finished with 81 yards rushing and four touchdowns while Aaron Shockey finished the night with 234 passing yards.
