CSR Outlook from Ryan Mueller and Pete Nielsen: The 2009 season will be Hebron’s tenth as a program overall and fourth since moving up from Class 4A. Head Coach Brian Brazil has been on campus since day one and built a fine tradition. The defending 6-5A champs return 11 starters (5 offense, 6 defense). The Hawks backfield will have a new look due to the graduation of QB Justin Iwuji (Naval Academy) and RB Darius Staten (Naval Academy). Hebron’s 2009 starting quarterback Kyle Aubuchon is the younger brother of Brian Aubuchon who led the Hawks to victory in the Class 4A Division II Championship back in 2005. Similar to his older brother, Kyle began his high school career at outside linebacker but unlike Brian fell short of receiving newcomer of the year after suffering a season-ending injury early last year. Junior RB JT Teague, the son of former Dallas Cowboy safety George Teague will help ease Aubuchon’s transition to quarterback by establishing Hebron’s ground game. Coach Brazil has numerous top-notch athletes who will serve as playmakers in a variety of facets this year. Senior wide receivers Chad Barlow and Bryce Adger return and will also contribute their speed and experience to the Hawk defense at cornerback. Senior Chris Summers adds more skill at tight end and brings brute strength to the Hawk linebacker corps. Junior Kurt Walker earned first team all district honors as a place kicker in 2008 and will offer varsity experience at split end this year. The offensive line will need rebuilding but the return of Ryan Schenkewitz and Steven Owens is a great start along with junior guard Will Juarez who captured massive attention from the Hawks’ entire coaching staff in the offseason.

Eric Mach will step in as the defensive coordinator after Dane Johnson accepted the head coaching job at Boerne High School earlier this year. Mach inherits a unit with both speed and experience at each defensive position. The buzz around the Hebron campus is the play of transfer strong safety and Division 1 prospect David Jenkins who could possibly become the fastest athlete to ever play at the Woodshed. Senior NT Michael Odiari is a pre-season candidate for the district’s most valuable defensive player and will serve as the outright leader of Coach Mach’s defense. Similar to his older brother and Alex, Michael offers strong desire, raw emotion and a motor that never stops working hard. Along with Odiari, DE Joe Atkins returns to help newcomer Paul Crawford establish himself on the other end of the defensive line. Inside linebackers Tre’von Burks and Steven Tocci are back with free safety Wes Hammer who started three games last year and is said to be the Hawks’ most improved player coming into 2009.

The defense may need to carry the young offensive early, but Hawks Offensive Coordinator Shay Nanny always finds a way to get the best out of his unit every season. The Hawks will be eager to get the bitter taste of last year’s disappointing overtime playoff loss to Wylie out of their mouth by exacting revenge on the Pirates in zero week.
