Trinity Trojans (9-2 / 7-0 in 5-5A) – The Trojans ran all over Flower Mound in a first round matchup last week at Cowboys Stadium by the score of 88-27. The Trojan offense rolled up a mind numbing 805 total yards, 585 of which were on the ground. Running backs Damien Hart (18-142) and Terrance Tusan (13-119) led the way on the ground for the Trojans who were without leading rusher Tevin Williams. Senior quarterback Willie Hubbard was outstanding, rushing for 91 yards and completing seven of his eight pass attempts for 174 yards along with three total touchdowns. The Trojan defense caused six turnovers including an interception by Na’a Moeakiola that was returned 55 yards for a touchdown. The Trojans obviously walk away from games with a lot of confidence considering they have outscored their last eight opponents 393 to 93. As usual, Trinity will need to assert itself on the ground with the ultimate goal of wearing out the Plano Wildcat defense.
Plano Wildcats (5-6 / 3-3 in 8-5A) – Plano survived a first half in which it committed five turnovers and found itself trailing Duncanville by a score of 17-0 at halftime. Head coach Jaydon McCullough and the Plano coaching staff made necessary adjustments and the offense responded with 28 unanswered points in the second half. As a result, the Wildcats enter the area round of the playoffs coming off of a big 28-17 victory over the Panthers. Senior running back Jared Kirchmeier’s return has bolstered the rushing game as Kirchmeier ran for 165 yards on 21 carries and scored a touchdown. Wide receiver Robert Robinson caught 10 passes for 98 yards and scored the go-ahead touchdown to lift the Wildcats over the top. Plano’s defense was impressive the entire game, keeping Duncanville’s offense from scoring while also allowing just 120 total yards for the game. It’s going to take an impressive effort from the Wildcat run defense against the Trojans in order for the Wildcats to punch their ticket to the next round of the playoffs.
